History of Character in their Game:

The Games has a wiki of his life prior to the Games. Long story short, he was a potential tribute that failed to make it to his Arena and channeled his rage and self-deprecation into training many District 2 tributes in his stead. The man has a chip on his shoulder the size of Panem.

Leo comes in preparation for the Thirteenth Arena of the 74th Hunger Games as a District 2 coach. To say that he had a contentious rivalry with Calendius Rey was an understatement as Cal never missed a chance to remind Leo that he missed his chance at the arena while Leo reminded Cal that District 1 hadn’t won an Arena in a long time. The only buffers were Sergius Romulus and Valerius Tor, both natives of Panem with their own stories to tell. Once these three left, for reasons that Leo didn’t particularly care about, nothing stood between the notoriously short-tempered coach and his shots at his tributes and anyone.

Leo had nothing but contempt towards his offworld tributes, noting that because they weren’t from Panem, they had no true respect for the traditions and gravity of the Hunger Games as he had seen his District go without the Capitol’s for a substantial amount of time. He particularly had much initial disdain towards those who advocated for no Games, as he believed them to be weak.

He was annoyed to all hell when he saw that his tributes included an old man claiming to be a wizard named Merlyn. Though he had exchanged words in the network, he met the old geezer after watching some Peacekeepers beat him up and mourning more for the eggs that got cracked. Reluctantly, the coach helped Merlyn up and “supervised” the growth of the surviving egg into a robin, all the while listening to the old man’s mad tales of a world before Panem. It was through Merlyn that Cora began to develop a curiosity towards books, something he had previously tossed aside as a waste of time. When Merlyn was executed for his treasonous acts, Leo managed to find some of the books, particularly John Locke’s treatises on government as well as others, and secretly stored them away.

Another tribute that shaped Leo was Jet Link, a fighter that he could spar with. Jet was mourning his spouse’s, Albert Heimlich, death when the two met. After a bit of goading, they sparred and discovered a mutual respect for each other’s strengths, though Leo’s patriotism got in the way of a good first impression. Leo did keep his responsibilities towards his Tributes and over time, began to trust Jet and provide him help in both sponsorships and a listening ear while training. This trust reached its’ zenith during the war when Leo let the android, having gone rebel, reunite with his husband, perform a play fight to give the man an out, and carry out the destruction of the Tribute Center, during the war. It was through Link that Leo truly rebelled against the Capitol, having roused his District pride and instinct to protect the mountainous region.

His relationship with Cullen Rutherford was another instance of Leo meeting someone who was against the Hunger Games. It was with Cullen that Leo had to learn to be more diplomatic in his approaches to his Tributes, sparring and chatting about. Rutherford’s surprise win at Arena 15 gave Leonidas a much needed victory but by then, he was still conflicted about another pacifist winning the Arena. It was all a Pyrrhic victory as soon after the District Tour began, war broke out.

By far, The Batter was Leo’s favorite Tribute as this one understood. The strange, tense man with a bat had the sense of mission and sacrifice that Cora, and by part District 2, demanded, carrying out the will and strength that the coach so badly needed. Though the Batter did not win any arenas, getting uncomfortably close only to be beaten by Cullen, Leonidas didn’t quit on the man, ensuring that in some way, the next Arena would be his. Unfortunately, the Batter soon died permanently soon after the war began, shattering any dreams of a crown on that baseball cap. God, he misses a competent Tribute.

Not all of Leonidas’ time was spent with the tributes as he too developed unlikely friendships and predictable skirmishes with people within the Capitol. One of the first people he met after Arena 13 was the Signless, the previous Arena’s victor. The troll had the unfortunate luck of being two things Leo hated: a pacifist and an offworlder. So spiteful was Leo that his first few interactions were terrible public messes…enough that Celebrus, the Capitol’s premier gossip magazine started to ship them. Cora threatened to physically attack the company. Over time, the spite gave way to a friendship and a pseudo courtship that allowed Leo some respite in the war, letting Signless disappear with the Rebellion.

Clara Murphy was another pacifist Victor who clearly had no intentions of winning and didn’t deserve her crown. While she and Leo didn’t speak too much after the staff retreat, she was one of the first to truly make the man question Panem’s history as she came from a time before, like Merlyn.

On the other hand, Torin Byrd was the D2 Mentor when Leo came around, and Leo was a fanboy from the start. He listened to Byrd’s advice with rapt attention, with Torin being the only person who could mellow Leonidas and his harsh coaching style for periods at a time. Felicity Yoshida, Torin’s niece and Candy Yoshida’s daughter, had been one of Leo’s cadets. She had been enrolled for a short time in the Cora Training Facilities by way of Candy’s wish to have a daughter follow in the footsteps of her famous uncle. Leo quickly caught on that Felicity’s heart wasn’t in and quietly dismissed her. They would meet again in the Capitol, where the coach would still call her Cadet as he made sure no “offworlder riff-raff” (looking at you Gary Epps) would hurt her. The last time he aw the Byrds was them escaping to District 2 before the War.

Jason Compson was the Capitol’s asshole king of assholes in Leonidas’ eyes. The man encapsulated the worst of the place: rumors of family inbreeding, a nasty attitude towards Districters, something about his mother, and being an overall waste of space. Leo hated the man enough that he was unafraid if Jason (or more likely his girlfriend, the much richer and powerful Swann Honeymead) would get him killed, he fired insults at him. He shed no tear when it was discovered that Jason had been complicit with the Rebellion and bargaining for his safety. Typical spineless Capitolite.

But not all Capitolites were sniveling idiots in Cora’s world as there was one Capitolite that became near and dear: China Sorrows. China might’ve been a librarian with a sarcastic streak to boot, but she was honest in her ways, allowing Leo to be honest. Both were conniving and scheming to be on top, but they figured an alliance would prove more useful. They were open about their cutthroat ways and Leo found that refreshing and even a bit alluring. Though he knew that China would sell him out, Leonidas did his best to keep her safe during the war, and in the end, made sure her library was spared from being looted and destroyed. He might’ve fallen in love with the one woman who could just as easily kill him as he would to her.

How did they change from their canon personality wise (Please explain what caused it to happen?)

Leo started out as another Districter, indoctrinated into the ways of the Capitol and the Hunger Games to the point of celebrating the deaths ass necessary for the nation. Over time, through his Tributes and the experiences of war, Leo began to truly question what the Capitol’s motives were and their selfishness in their survival above the Districts. He maintains his District 2 pride, calling others as Districter, Capitolite or Offworlder.

Though his arrogant and ignorant nature have subsided somewhat, Leo remains confrontational and chiding of anyone who disagrees with him. He’s just…more open to talking things out. He now appreciates the other side’s perspective but will still mount a stubborn defense towards his ideals.

How did they change from their canon physically (Please explain what caused it to happen?):

His limp has become more pronounced as the war progressed, causing him to rely on his spear for long stretches of walking. The tattoos on his right arm have started to fade and covered in combat scars from the war. He looks a bit more gaunt as the War took a toll on him.

Powers: No actual powers, but he has been trained to be a Tribute and has been training Tributes for all his life. He has exceptional skills as a fighter and killer as well as quick thinking on battle. He’s able to use any weapons available to him, though he shows disdain towards firearms (“Not visceral enough”)

Possessions: He has his spear, his Capitol soldier uniform and his plain training clothes. He also has a few of China Sorrows' and Merlyn's books, especially those who date back to Panem before the Capitol.

Please provide three samples from your previous game, at least one will have to be third person with context:
Sample One: A training day
Sample Two: Learning Pre-Panem history
Sample Three: A library (post war)

Notes: If possible, can Leo retain his memories from the Fourth Wall event? He met Renart there and he could be itching for a dialogue about France’s existence.
